When the Irish Invaded Canada Book Talk

Last week I had the pleasure of kicking off my speaking tour for When the Irish Invaded Canada at the Lawrence Heritage State Park as part of Irish Heritage Month in the city of Lawrence, Massachusetts. It was an apt location because New England mill cities, which had large Irish populations during the Civil War era, were prime recruiting grounds for the Fenian Brotherhood, which launched the attacks on Canada, and Lawrence was no exception.

Lawrence Community Television recorded the event, so if you’d like to hear more about the story of the Irish who attacked Canada you can watch it below.

Below is my talk I gave at An Unlikely Story in Plainville, Massachusetts.

My great great grandfather fought for the British in the Fenian raid. We have his medal with ribbon, discharge papers and photo of him with his regiment. He was a gunner.
