Honors Sought for Battle of Ridgeway Soldiers

In WHEN THE IRISH INVADED CANADA I write about the Fenian Raids from the perspective of the Irish-Americans who carried out the attacks on Canada. From the perspective of those Canadians who died defending their territory, kudos to Peter Vronsky, who wrote a book on the Battle of Ridgeway, and Dan Stepaniuk who are fighting for proper recognition for the soldiers of the Royal Hamilton Light Infantry Regiment and Queen’s Own Rifles Regiment of Toronto who have been refused military honors.

While an inexperienced Canadian senior commander made a terrible blunder during the battle, the blame should not be placed on the men and boys (some of them University of Toronto students who were told to put down their books and given guns to defend the souther border) fighting to defend their homes.
